Metal Roof Issues You Should Watch Out For When it Rains

At last, the invigorating sunshine has arrived in Tampa Bay. Meteorologists, however, say that despite the warmer climate, rain is something residents in the area should watch out for. The Tampa Bay Times has a report on this matter:

After nearly a week of sunshine and a brilliant weekend, rain could return to Tampa Bay starting today. “Now we’re in a more progressive weather pattern for a couple of days,” Bay News 9 meteorologist Josh Linker said.

According to the experts, severe weather is very likely this season, affecting even other areas outside Florida.

Across the country, severe weather downed trees and produced tornadoes in the plains states Sunday night. More severe weather and even tornadoes are possible as a mass of warm air moves through the plains today, and a cold front further west could produce a wild swing in temperatures that will mean up to 10 inches of snow in Denver.

Arry’s Roofing Services, Inc., a company specializing in metal roofing, says that rain might cause some issues with metal roofs. Without the right maintenance, homeowners with metal roofs in Tampa could be looking at some necessary repair jobs in the next few weeks.

Leaks are some of the most common problems that might arise. If the metal roof seams, fasteners, valley gutters, flashings, and ridges aren’t intact, there could be enough room for a few raindrops to pass through. Similar to the logic of a dam, a single opening can be severely damaging to the entire roof. Loose-fitting seams could also pose a problem this season. Weather extremes can cause the roof to contract and expand, which means you have to check the roof seams before the rains start.

Lastly, homeowners should also watch out for rust and corrosion. The elements can damage the original finish, which would expose the uncoated metal to a greater risk for rust. If you own a property with metal roofing in Tampa, you have to be on the lookout for these possible issues when it rains and call Arry’s Roofing Services Inc. whenever you spot any signs of damage.
