Cody Hughes of Tampa was recently declared the winner of the 2014 No Roof Left Behind promo by Tarpon Springs roofing contractor Arry’s Roofing. Nearly 80 nominees participated this year. The goal of the No Roof Left Behind promo was to provide a new roof free of charge to one family living in the Tampa Bay Area.
To participate, nominees were asked to submit photos of their roof along with their story. Locals then cast their votes.
Cody Hughes’s story was one of months of struggle and worry. First, his insurance provider didn’t renew his policy, so his bank took out their own (more expensive and less comprehensive) policy. They were already having difficulty saving for a roof before his wife, Andrea, gave birth. Sadly, their daughter had a condition which required immediate surgery and a long stay in the ICU. Hospital bills ate up all of their savings—and then some.
As a sort of final blow, a patched section of their roof fell right over what would be their little girl’s room. The mold and moisture would have been bad for a healthy person, much less for an immunocompromised baby.
Having a community come together on behalf of a family in need is what makes promos like No Roof Left Behind really worth it. The Hughes home will be receiving a new roof system valued at between $12,000 and $15,000.
