The Best Roofing Material Types for Tampa Homes

Certain types of roofing work in certain climates. In our 25 years of providing roofing for homes in the Tampa Bay area, we’ve seen which roofs work in this climate. Heavy rain, powerful wind, and scorching sun make up the weather of the Gulf Coast region, so you need roofing that’s optimized for such conditions. Here’s a guide to appropriate roofing materials for the Florida climate.

Roofing Material Types

1. Asphalt Shingles

As the most-used roofing type across North America, asphalt strikes a balance between price and durability, with a life expectancy of up to 20 years given proper maintenance. Our designation as a GAF® Master Elite™ Tampa roofing company allows us to offer GAF’s wide selection of asphalt shingles, from traditional 3-Tab Shingles, through Timberline® Lifetime Shingles, to Designer Lifetime Shingles. TruSlate® Shingles are also available for those who want affordable, genuine slate roofing.

2. Tile Roofing

If you would like a more traditional look for your home, then tile roofing may be best for you. Tile roofing is excellent for warm weather as it does not absorb as much heat as other roofing types do. It is also inherently heavy and resists strong winds better than asphalt shingles. The only caveat with heavy roofing is that your roof has to be configured for tile roofing; that is, it needs to have the correct slope and a roof deck built for heavier load. We’re proud to be the Tampa roofers who install tile roofing certified by the Tile Roofing Institute.

3. Metal Roofing

Metal is fast becoming a popular roofing material because of its durability, aesthetic appeal, and protection against the elements; in fact, metal roofing has proven to be able to withstand wind speeds exceeding 150 miles per hour. They’re also virtually maintenance-free — the only time you might need to call for roof repair in Tampa is if your roof suffered a very severe hailstorm.

4. Flat or Low-Slope Roofing

Commonly associated with commercial properties, we also install low-slope roofing for garages and unusual house designs, from traditional built-up roofing to “cool roofs” like TPO and PVC. With proven protection against water pooling and excellent wind resistance, it’s as formidable as typical residential roofing.

Whatever roofing option you choose, you can count on Arry’s Roofing to install it for you. If you would like to know more, call us today at (727) 938-9565 or fill out our contact form.
