Arry’s Roofing Employee Spotlight: Brad Blanton

Brad Blanton, Commercial and Residential Roofing Consultant, has been with the Arry’s family for just over a year. Brad is a Midwest boy originally from Connersville, Indiana, and currently resides in Trinity. In addition to providing a home or business owner with the best possible experience with Arry’s Roofing, his job responsibilities include educating them on the Tampa Bay roofing system that best suits their needs. “My favorite thing about working for Arry’s Roofing is that we are all a family and everyone lifts each other up to perform the best they possibly can,” he says.

Brad considers his faith his greatest strength, and he appreciates the high standards of his employer. “The one thing that sets Arry’s Roofing apart from other roofing contractors in the Tampa Bay area is principles. The Housh family’s belief that you should conduct business with honesty and integrity, as well as provide the best possible product on the market, filters down to every employee.”

“Brad has been such a great addition to the Arry’s team,” says Matthew Housh, Vice President of Arry’s Roofing. “He is very passionate about what he does and wonderful with customers. Brad is most proud of his fiancé, Haley. “She works full-time, goes to law school and still finds the time to be there for me,” he says. The couple is planning a January wedding. Their long-term goals are to “raise a family and grow old knowing we’ve raised our children to be good people.”

During his down time, Brad enjoys spending time with members of his church, playing golf and cooking. He also enjoys cheering on Notre Dame football, Indiana Hoosier basketball and the Chicago Cubs. If he could go anywhere for a day, naturally he would head to Augusta National and “tee it up until the sun went down!”

When it comes to TV, Brad never misses Sportscenter and Chopped. Currently his favorite place to dine out is Grill One Sixteen, but he acknowledges that will change.

Brad would give others the following piece of advice: “Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? Don’t worry about what the future holds, but know who holds it.” Thanks, Brad, for being an important member of the Arry’s family!

The Super Bowl Makes TV Viewing Active

You may not remember what you did last Sunday, but it’s likely you’ve got a rock solid plan for this weekend. Super Bowl Sunday is kind of like a national holiday. In fact, 111 million watched last year’s big game, making it the most watched television event in history. Thanks to the launch of new TV commercials, we can certainly expect to see some memorable moments, even if the game between the Giants and Patriots turns out to be a dud.

One ad for a certain automotive company that will feature Matthew Broderick reprising his role as Ferris Bueller has been generating a lot of buzz during the week. Others may be less impressive, but each 30-second spot cost $3.5 million just for the air time. Paying actors like Broderick (or lesser known talent) costs a big chunk of change too and the production costs aren’t cheap either.

It’s one of the rare times you actually look for the commercials rather than ignoring them. As you watch the broadcast on Sunday evening—at home, at a friend’s house or your favorite Tampa Bay gathering place—you’ll know the hits and misses pretty quickly. You may even be surprised by a few of them.

The active way we approach ads on the day of this enormous television event can be a reminder to look more carefully at the messages we receive daily from advertisers. Often when we’re buying goods and services, we may become singularly focused on one aspect of the “sell”, such as the price of a product. That narrow focus can cause us to overlook key elements of the transaction, the so-called “fine print” we’re often warned about.

When you’re watching the big game on Sunday and evaluating the messages from major advertisers, try giving some thought to more than humor or surprise elements. Did the ad tease you but leave out vital information? Was the ad too creative that you forgot what was actually being advertised?

Consciously evaluating these multi-million dollar commercials can help you more effectively assess the messages you receive daily from Tampa Bay’s local stores and service providers. When you become an actively engaged consumer, you’ll ask more informed questions and make better decisions. Three Ways to Help Tampa Bay Habitat Programs
Volunteer
You don’t need to be a roofing expert to make a difference. Even without knowing what apron flashing is, you can help in a big way by volunteering your time. Most Habitat programs have an online application that makes it easy to get started. Let them know if you have technical skills, such as experience with drywall, electrical, plumbing or flooring. Perhaps your area of expertise is filing, bookkeeping or data entry. Those are valuable assets too.

If time is too limited, a monetary donation is always an easy way to support your local Habitat for Humanity organization. Your cash, check or online donation helps cover the essentials of any project. Even a small donation is appreciated. Just consider, $10 could help buy a box of nails; $35 helps buy roof shingles; $75 means a window can be purchased; $100 helps buy the kitchen sink.

Feed
If your area of expertise involves cooking, baking or preparing meals, imagine the appetite that a volunteer crew works up during a day on site. Decorating Without Damaging Your Tampa Roof

Decorations on a multitude of homes from Tampa to St. Petersburg make this a festive time in Florida. Thanks to our mild weather in December, putting up lights and other holiday decorations is a more enjoyable activity here than it is in cold climates where overnight lows have already dipped below the freezing mark. Yet home decorators in any part of the country can unknowingly cause damage while decorating if they don’t recognize potential hazards.

The most common type of decoration is lighting. It’s wise to test your lights before putting them up, and discard any lights that malfunction as an electrical short is a common cause of house fires during the holidays. But the roof is not a recommended place for holiday lights due to the need to secure them. While many lights can be wrapped around a tree or stapled around windows, the use of staples or nails to secure lights on the roof may permanently damage your roofing materials. Even a relatively small hole in a roofing system can allow moisture to penetrate your roof and begin rotting or causing leaks. A safer option would be to secure light strands with clips along the eaves of the roof.

Some homeowners will decorate with giant inflatable products in the front yard or on the roof. This fun and colorful items are attention grabbing, but can also be damaging if they are secured to a roof using staples or nails. If your decorations from the store don’t come with directions, a reliable and safe alternative for securing them can come from using zip ties and small sand bags for weighing them down in the valley of the roof, for example. Tying large decorations to a chimney is also an option.
